Media Bias Quantified by UCLA

I want to apologize in advance for posting a diary that is little more than a link to an interesting article, but I am pressed for time, and I thought that this article ought to be brought to the attention of you kind folks at RedState.

UCLA has completed a study of ten years worth of output from twenty major media sources, and has used a rating system similar to the one used by Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) to rate how liberal lawmakers are, with 100 being most liberal, and 0 being most conservative.

UCLA took steps to give the appearance of impartiality, including refusing outside funding, and using a group of research assistants who were evenly split in their support of either Kerry or Bush in last year's election. They also omitted all opinion pieces from the study, as they are biased by definition.

The results are in some cases surprising. Even Drudge was found to lean left, along with the Wall Street Journal, once the opinion page is removed.

The three most liberal:

  • CBS Evening News
  • New York Times
  • Los Angeles Times

The only two who leaned right:

  • Special Report with Brit Hume
  • Washington Times

    Please feel free to discuss.

I shoulda checked the other diaries first. Ongoing discussion here.
